How to Beat the Heat in Naples: Indoor Activities & Summer Plans

Summer in Naples gets a bad reputation it does not entirely deserve.

Yes, it is hot. Yes, the afternoon storms can roll in with about ten minutes of warning. And yes, if you are standing outside at 2pm in July without a plan, you may start questioning every life decision that led you there.

But locals figure something out pretty quickly: summer in Naples just runs differently.

Mornings are for the beach, errands, and outdoor activities. The hottest part of the day is when you head inside. Then, once the afternoon heat starts to break, it is time to head back out.

So if you're looking for something to do when the beach isn't calling your name, here are some of our favorite ways to beat the heat in Naples, with actual places to go.

Spend an Afternoon at the Museum

Naples has no shortage of places to get your culture fix while staying comfortably air conditioned.

The Baker Museum at Artis Naples is an easy choice for an afternoon indoors, with rotating exhibitions and plenty to explore. It is the kind of place where you can easily spend a couple of hours before heading somewhere for lunch or coffee.

For families, the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples, known around town as C'MON, is another great rainy or scorching hot day option. The interactive exhibits give kids plenty to do while parents get a break from the heat.

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is another local favorite, with indoor exhibits and aquarium spaces that make it an easy option when the weather is not cooperating.

Make a Day of Shopping

When it is too hot to wander around outside, shopping is a pretty good solution.

Waterside Shops is an obvious choice for browsing, shopping, grabbing lunch, and escaping the heat for a few hours. You can also head downtown and combine a few boutiques along Fifth Avenue South or Third Street South with coffee or lunch in between stops.

The key is to pick a few stops rather than trying to power through the heat all afternoon.

Go See a Movie

Sometimes the best summer plan is the simplest one.

CineBistro at Coastland is a favorite for a reason, comfortable seats, a full menu, and excellent air conditioning. If you want something a little more theatrical, Alamo Drafthouse has its own cult following in town, and Paragon at the Pavilion gets my vote for best popcorn, with Royal Scoop right next door for ice cream after. Either way, pick a movie, grab popcorn, and enjoy a couple of hours of escaping the heat. A summer matinee is especially underrated when the afternoon forecast is calling for storms.

Go Bowling

Bowling may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Naples, but that is exactly why it makes a good summer plan.

HeadPinz is the local go to, with modern lanes, an arcade, laser tag, and a sports bar attached, so you can turn a quick game into a whole afternoon without ever stepping back outside.

Book a Workout or Wellness Class

If sitting around all afternoon is not your thing, there are plenty of ways to stay active indoors.

Pilates, yoga, cycling, barre, and other fitness studios around Mercato and Fifth Avenue make it easy to keep moving without melting outside.

Or skip the workout altogether and make it a wellness afternoon. Book a facial, massage, or other treatment and call it your summer reset. Go no frills with a deep tissue massage at Happy Feet, or go full luxury and spend the day at the Four Seasons spa.

Find a New Coffee Shop

A hot afternoon is the perfect excuse to try somewhere new.

The Brick on Fifth Avenue South is a downtown staple with a patio for people watching once the heat breaks. Acopio Coffee is great if you love a proper pour over. Wolfmoon shares a space with Kaleidoscope Floral, and I promise it will be the most gorgeous coffee run you make all summer. Bring a book or a laptop, order something cold, and stay awhile. You do not always need a packed itinerary to have a good Naples afternoon.

Try Something a Little More Competitive

If you are looking for something that keeps everyone entertained, an escape room is a solid pick. Naples has a few good options if you search around, and they are especially good when you have friends or family visiting and have already checked the beach, pool, and boat off the list.

Don't Forget the Long Lunch

One of our favorite ways to spend a summer afternoon in Naples is to simply take your time.

Head downtown, find a spot like Sea Salt or Campiello you have been meaning to try, order lunch, and do not rush through it. Add coffee or dessert afterward and let the afternoon unfold from there.

The slower pace of summer can actually be one of the best parts.

The Naples Summer Formula

The trick to enjoying summer here is not trying to pretend the heat does not exist. Plan around it.

Get outside early. Head inside during the hottest part of the day. Then get back outside for dinner, a walk, or a sunset once the temperature starts to cooperate.

Once you get into that rhythm, summer in Naples feels a lot less like something to survive and a lot more like another way to enjoy the city.

So the next time the forecast says 100° with a chance of thunderstorms, save the beach for tomorrow and pick something from this list instead.
